Code of Conduct for DJs

Purpose

Tower Block Radio is built on underground music, respect, discovery and community. This Code of Conduct sets the standards expected from DJs, presenters, hosts, MCs, guests and contributors.

Scope

This code applies to:

• Resident DJs.
• Guest DJs.
• Hosts and presenters.
• MCs.
• Interview guests.
• Livestream contributors.
• People representing Tower Block Radio online or at events.

Core standards

DJs and contributors must:

• Respect the culture.
• Respect other artists, DJs, listeners and volunteers.
• Turn up prepared and on time.
• Follow show timings and technical instructions.
• Avoid abusive, threatening or discriminatory behaviour.
• Credit artists and labels where possible.
• Respect unreleased music and private submissions.
• Follow safeguarding and rights policies.
• Protect the reputation of Tower Block Radio.

Music and content

DJs must:

• Avoid knowingly playing stolen or unauthorised music.
• Respect promo and dubplate conditions.
• Avoid sharing private download links.
• Avoid claiming ownership of music they do not own.
• Provide track information where reasonably possible.
• Follow any licensing or broadcast restrictions communicated by Tower Block Radio.

Language and behaviour on air

Tower Block Radio supports authentic underground expression, but contributors must not use the platform to:

• Promote hatred.
• Threaten or harass people.
• Target protected characteristics.
• Encourage violence.
• Groom, exploit or manipulate.
• Share private information.
• Make defamatory claims.
• Promote illegal activity in a way that creates risk for the station.

Young people and vulnerable people

DJs and contributors must follow safeguarding boundaries. They must not privately contact, exploit, pressure or arrange private meetings with young people or adults at risk through Tower Block Radio access.

Alcohol and drugs

DJs and contributors must not attend Tower Block Radio activity in a state that makes them unsafe, unreliable or unable to behave professionally.

Social media

When representing Tower Block Radio, contributors should:

• Avoid bringing the station into disrepute.
• Avoid online harassment.
• Avoid leaking private station information.
• Credit the station and artists accurately.
• Avoid making promises on behalf of Tower Block Radio without permission.

Equipment and venues

DJs must respect equipment, studios and venues. Damage, theft, misuse or unsafe behaviour may result in removal from the station.

Breaches

Breaches may result in:

• Informal warning.
• Formal warning.
• Show suspension.
• Removal from schedule.
• Removal from events.
• Referral under safeguarding, complaints or rights policies.
• External referral where required.

Review

This code will be reviewed annually.
